Thank you for supporting Ben Archer for District 3 Gwinnett County Commissioner!
I need your votes now more than ever. November 3rd!
About Ben Archer
It is official, I am taking the big step into the political arena. I have qualified to run for the District 3 Gwinnett County Commissioner position. I have been contemplating this decision for a long time. With the encouragement of family, friends, and coworkers, I look forward to serving my fellow Gwinnettians. I am 53 years old and a lifelong resident of Gwinnett County. I have seen Gwinnett change and grow in so many ways. I remember growing up in Dacula where we only had one red light and the place to hang out was Frank’s Pizza Grill near the railroad tracks. I can recall when Highway 316 ended at the Gwinnett Medical Center, and when Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth opened and was the place to be! Things have definitely changed with the passing of time. In my hometown we now have many more stores and businesses. Highway 316 has become a major corridor to Athens, Georgia, and one of the newest malls for shopping is the Mall of Georgia in Buford.
I want everyone to know that, first and foremost, I am a Christian and am a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. I have been married to my wife Stephanie for almost 19 years and we have three wonderful children. My wife is a lifelong Gwinnettians from Lawrenceville, and our children have and will continue to attend Gwinnett County Public Schools. We love our school system as it is a world class organization. Gwinnett County Public School System has many wonderful educators and support staff that continuously pursue excellence and place students’ education and well being first.
Not only does Gwinnett have a top-notch school system, we have the number one park system in the United States. In 2008, Gwinnett won the Grand Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. The recognition came from the National Recreation and Park Association and the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. This was an awesome recognition that was made possible by the support of Gwinnett County tax payers. Because of our beautiful parks, many families within Gwinnett can either simply enjoy the outdoors, or participate in recreation sports which support the growth of Gwinnett County Schools’ sports programs. I had the enjoyment of being able to play sports at Dacula Park, and my own children have participated in many different recreational and leisurely sports at Dacula, Tribble Mill, and Harbins Parks.
In fact, Tribble Mill Park holds a special place in my heart. I am proud to say that my father, Julian Archer Sr., who was a Gwinnett County Commissioner in the late 60s, continued to serve the community in many ways even after leaving office, such as by helping to secure federal and state funding for the construction of Tribble Mill Park. While he was in office, he and his fellow commissioners were able to help to make our county safer by getting the first Fire Station located in the City of Norcross. My dad passed away in 1989, and I have always tried to emulate his heart for serving others. He is one of my many reasons for wanting to run for the position of District 3 Gwinnett County Commissioner.
Not only have I lived and played in Gwinnett, I have always worked in Gwinnett County. In the late 80s I began my career at Rockwell Boeing in Duluth. Over the years I have worked for the City of Lawrenceville, the Gwinnett County Government, and am currently employed with Gwinnett County Public Schools for nearly 20 years.
I have had great experiences with the hardworking and invaluable employees of our local governments. I am so very thankful for, and proud of, our public servants. The protective service men and women in our county often times have thankless jobs, I believe they are very deserving of our respect and support.
Over the years, my own experiences in serving others consist of:
volunteering at my childrens’ schools
teaching Sunday School and VBS
participating on the steering committee for the layout and design of the Harbins Park
founding member of the Archer Athletic Association
appointed to the committee for 2040 Unified Plan for Gwinnett County (mapping of the 20 year plan for Gwinnett County)
presently serving on the Gwinnett County Planning Commission Board
My wish is that everyone know that I am just like everyone else in Gwinnett County. I am proud to live, work, and enjoy my life in Gwinnett. I want my family and I to be able to get to work and school and back home safely and in a reasonable time so that I can spend quality time with my family and friends. I am asking for your vote so that I can help Gwinnett County to continue to move towards a safe, efficient, and thriving community.
